What is Best in Mauritius?

Best in Mauritius is the island's people's choice awards and business directory. Region by region — starting with Best in the West — Mauritians and visitors nominate and vote for the businesses they rate most, across categories from Best Restaurant and Best Estate Agent to Best Spa, Best Beach Bar, Best Diving Centre and Best Local Hero.

Why was Best in Mauritius created?

It revives the original People's Choice idea — an award decided by ordinary people, for ordinary people. Over the years that concept drifted toward big corporates and pay-to-win schemes. Best in Mauritius deliberately hands it back to the public: every business, from the biggest agency to the roti van on the corner, can win, and only the public vote decides.

Who can be nominated?

Anyone. Every business on the island can be put forward — you don't have to be big or well known, you just have to be good. If people rate it, it belongs in the awards.

Can I nominate a business in more than one category?

Yes. On the nominate page you can pick as many categories as you like, and each one opens its own row — so you can put forward a different business for each category in a single go. A business can be nominated once per category.

Can I vote in more than one category?

Yes. You can vote across every category, but only once in each. One verified vote per person, per category — so the results reflect real people, not repeat voting.

What if the business I want to nominate isn't in the directory?

Just type its name. If it isn't already listed, it's added to the directory automatically as part of your nomination — so nothing stops you putting forward a favourite that hasn't been listed yet.

Can I list or claim my own business?

Yes. Businesses appear in the free directory as soon as they're nominated, and owners can claim their listing to keep the details up to date. Each business also gets its own voting link and QR code to share with customers once voting opens.

How does voting work?

Once nominations close, a shortlist is published for each category and public voting opens. You pick your favourite and verify with a one-time code sent by email or SMS. Tallies are public and update live, so everyone can see how the race is going.

How is voting kept fair?

Every vote is verified with a one-time code, and the database enforces a single vote per person, per category — so it can't be stacked. Leaderboards are public and live, and sponsors fund the awards night, never the result.

Is it free to take part?

Completely. Nominating and voting are free, and being listed in the directory is free for businesses. Best in Mauritius is designed to be genuinely for the people, by the people.

When are winners announced?

Winners are crowned at the awards night at the end of each season, once voting closes — celebrated with the local business community. Until then, follow the live leaderboards on each category page.
